Desire

The night of the day
Desires,expectations,emotions
All in the same bowl
Freezing in deep
Subconscious
Boiling up for freedom
In the form of smoke
Eternal heat of love and lust
Pushing it up and up
Like a ocean in the tides

The darkness of the bright
Fear, romance, dilemmas
All in the same bowl
Melting slowly
Happiness is surging
Desires of the body
Hopping
Throbbing
Coming out
Like a frog in the pond

Students of the Year: Love, Romance and Education

Student of the year is one of the best Hindi films I have ever watched. Directed by Karan Johar and Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Student of the Year  is romantic comedy film casted by Sidharth Malhotra( Avimanyu), Varun Dhawan( Rohan ) Alia Bhatt (Shanya Singhania) etc. Rishi Kapoor as Dean Yogindar Vasist plays the role of strict college dean of ST Teresa Collage.
Avi manyu, who is also called Avi, gets scholarship and admits in St Teresa College. He is from middle class family having firm goal in the life and also determines to win the Trophy of the student of the year. At the first day he gets troubled by the group the Rohan who seems to be the hero of the college. But Avi as a smart boy doesn’t get disappointed by his misbehavior. Later he develops friendship with Rohan, only son of the business tycoon Ram Kapoor. Rohan has a girlfriend  Alia Bhatt who is the most beautiful girl of the college and also everyone wanted to be with her. Avi also gets impressed by her beauty.  Rohan doesn’t seem honest in his affair with Alia since he flirts with many girls even in front of her. When Avi knows that Rohan doesn’t love her seriously, he suggests Alia to create a drama of flirting with him in front of Rohan which may give him a blow. Alia starts flirting with Avi which becomes a fat chance for him to be close with her. In fact Avi also likes her very much. When Rohan sees all these activities between Avi and Alia, he gets enraged with Avi. They even fight each other. When Avi knows that Alia loves Rohan he breaks his friendship with her. Antagonism increases between Avi and Rohan. When Rohan is caught by his father after his fight with Avi, he has a quarrel with father and immediately leaves the home.
After leaving home he has only a dream to be the winner of the trophy ‘student of the year’. On the other hand, Avi also preparing fiercely for the trophy. Alia remains confused who she really loves. The competition begins. Everyone try his/her best to be the winner. At the final competition Rohan wins the trophy. But at the award function he refuses to be awarded. And then he leaves the stage. His one of the friends claps and denounces the discriminatory practice of the college which brings antagonism among the friends. Rishi Kapoor, the dean of the college gets shocked by this unexpected event.
After ten years of this event, all of them meet once again. It’s shown that Avi has been married with Alia who has become a successful businessman; whereas Rohan has become a successful singer. Alia meets Rohan and also hugs him. Avi notices this and appears as if he is jealous with such behave. Then both of them start fighting in front of Alia as they did before. When they are settled, Rohan asks Avi why he had let him win the competition. Avi tells him that his father who was a mean devil smiling in his failure. So, he let him win the trophy. Both of them hug each her. And the film ends leaving a good message of true friendship.
By using flashback technique and picking the subjects of education and friendship, it is a blur imitation of the ‘Three Idiots” by Anil Kapoor. Despite some lapses on setting management and characters role play, it’s a success in delivering a good message to the education system and the youth of this age. It has many punches to hook the interest of the audiences.

My Little Bird

The sky is blue
Silver is the moon
Gold is the sun
That makes rainbow dazzle.

A bird in a little bush
Chirps. Chirps. Chirps.
I look down the slop
I look up the tree
I look up the sky.

The sky is blue
Silver is the moon
Gold is the sun
That makes rainbow dazzle.

A bird in a white fur
Twit. Twit. Twit.
I listen down the vale
I listen to the sail
I listen to the heaven.

The sky is blue
Silver is the moon
Gold is the sun
That makes the rainbow dazzle.

Pain of Rememberance in D.H. Lawrence's Piano and Parashu Pradhan's Telegram on the Table

Sitting on the lap of a woman and listening to her song, the persona of the poem 'Piano' should have been forgetting his past and enjoying the present moment. The relation of the woman to the persona is not clearly stated in the poem which begins with,“Softly in the dusk, a woman is singing to me". Who might be this woman; his wife, his beloved or, a professional singer; merely an entertainer? “Let’s forget whoever the woman might be. “Taking me back down the vista of years" refers to the state of the persona's mind that though he is physically present there, mentally gets lost in the past. He becomes a child once again 'sitting under the piano' and 'pressing the small poised feet of a mother'. He remembers the old Sunday evenings at home with his mother who used to sing religious hymns in the cosyparlor and would play piano. This memory comes like a flood which casts his manhood and makes him cry like a child.

As an adult and being with a woman it doesn't seem appropriate to cry like a child. He should give his body and mind to the woman who is singing to him. She might be trying to please him with her music and make him happy. The persona struggles in between his past and the present. But ''in spite of myself, the insidious mastery of song betrays me back". This suggests that his past becomes winner to his present. " So, now it is vain for the singer to burst into clamor with the great black piano." She is replaced by the persona's memory of his mother. She might appear as a virtual mother to the persona. The comparison of the lady with his mother seems to be impractical.  Instead, the persona can remember his ex-girlfriend which could contextualize the situation. But the memory of his mother is upon him as he says, "Down in the flood of remembrance, I weep like a child for the past." The pain of childhood memory has washed up the pleasure of the present.

Similarly, ParashuPradhan's“The Telegram on the Table" portrays the pain of remembrance at the end of the story despite Krishna's conscious attempt to forget his past. As a tourist guide in Kathmandu, Krishna comes late to his rented room being tired. One day he receives a telegram about the death of his wife in the village. “His eyes went along its lines once again. He suddenly felt happy.” This suggests that Krishna has no heart at all even to express momentary sadness. The telegram offers him chances to pursue his dream of marring American girl and visiting there as a tourist. “A tragedy like this should have made him weep. But none of it touched him at all.” Why? “Having lived alone for so long in the city, had he become like a stone?” says the story teller.
Krishna had a dream. “He had always tried to speak English, dreamed in English, and considered English his all.” His dream was to go America. “Often he dreamed of New York skyscrapers…”. In some extend, he was happy with his job of guiding tourist telling them about Nepali culture, art etc. He would imagine the unfamiliar voices calling him from distant lands. “Come to us just once, we will be your guides”. Such fantasy makes him forget his family. He had not visited his home in distant hill for many years. Most of the people who come to city for job return to their home at Dashain. But Krishna doesn’t go home even at Dashain. He might be living out of his family touch. He could go home and bring his wife for treatment. But his dream and ‘flagging ambition’ made him completely dumb.
One day when he realizes that he can’t follow the tourist girl ‘a pair of blue eyes’, he makes plan to invite Miss Pandey, a local girl for dinner. He thinks of his room and poor amenities. The room he rented is bad. If he gets up late, there is no water. He becomes practical and his dreams ‘dwindled away’. Then the memory of his home oozes in his mind. He can’t sleep. He goes to the table and reads the telegram “your wife died yesterday, your wife died, your wife died….” Krishna who has been sleeping without any disturbance for a week becomes restless. This might be the flood of remembrance which he wants to embank but fails at last.“Suddenly, angry with himself, he tore it to shreds and burst into tears. He cried and cried, he knew not how long.”Thus, the memory of the past is so vibrant in him that he fails to control and weeps like a child. His stone heart begins to melt suddenly with the heat of love and memory of his wife and the family.
To conclude, both the poem and the story show the pain of remembrance and mental conflict of the characters of their attachment with the present and their failure attempt to forget the past.

China Harayeko Maanchhe: A Story of Sufferings and SAFAR

Haribansha Acharya is one of the best comedians of Nepal. I have watched most of his stage programs and cinemas. He makes people laugh with his subtle satire on political leaders and other so called powerful people. Besides, his  tele-programs are more popular among millions of nepali audiences.
Recently, he has published a book entitled “ China Harayeko Maanchhe” immersed  with pain and and anxiety of his life. This book has made good purchases in the country and also collected diverse comments. In my view, the book became popular not because of its autonomous features, but because of the writer’s public personality, ebb and flow of his life and immense sympathy of the people.
“China Harayeko Maanchhe” is an autobiographical book; a bag filled with toil, tear, and tragedy. The book has been divided in to fifty-three chapters with two three pages writings having relevant topics. Some of them are more than three pages. The first chapter “ Chhoro Tote Baau Thote” is about his father and his age gap and public mockery at them. He was born when his father was 73 who died after seven years. There was a large age gap between his father and mother. She was the youngest of three wives of her husband. After her husband’s death she looked after four of her children alone with a great difficulty. At that time, she was only 38 years old. She died at the age of 52. Then his life became alone and miserable. He couldn’t get good educational environment. First he studied Sanskrit and then later he studied general subject. He failed twice in SLC and finally crossed Iron Gate from terai.
There was a golden locket with his horoscope. One day someone had stolen the golden locket along with horoscope. Since then he became a ‘china harayeko manchhe.’ He was only 11 years old when his mother died. Later he sold the house in RS. 37000, and started living in rental house. When the house owner knew that he had money he cheated him. Later he got his money back with the help of his friends with a great difficulty.
His life was a series of struggle. Sometimes he went to Thailand as a career boy with Manange to bring goods and sometimes he performed on the stage with no money at all. However, his talent made him popular in no time. He got first gold medal in 2034 with nine thousand prize for his performance of barking dog. In 2055, he got a job at Rastriya Nachghar as an actor with a basic salary 175. Later he left the job in Nachghar and started job at Praghya Pratisthan.
Haribansha and Madankrishna first performed together on the stage of Rastra Bank. From that time they are called Maha Jodi. Haribansha has mentioned their friendship in most of the pages of this book. Madankrishna and his family became the writer’s own family who supported in time of need. Slowly and gradually, they became busy in programs.
He liked Mira and proposed for marriage. But, at first she refused. He waited long for her possible approval of his proposal. As a result, he got married with his best liked and the most loved Mira. Mira supported his profession, started radio programs and became mother of two children. When she was pregnant second time, she suffered by typhoid and jaundice. She stayed three months in the hospital and gave birth of her son in seventh months. This moment really touch the heart of the readers. After two years she got fainted and hospitalized. After diagnosis, a ‘pace maker’ was kept in her chest to press her heart. When she was 47 years, she got brain hammarage and finally died.
Although Haribansha earned name, fame and money, he never laughed in his life. His life is full of sufferings and pain. After the death of Mira he lost everything from his life. He was nearly depressed. He used to cry in silence looking at the accessories of Mira. Later, with the consent of his sons and relatives, he got second marriage with Ramila, a widow of his age. In the book, he has given justification why he got second marriage in his old age despite his spirited love to Mira.
The book is series of his struggle, pain and sufferings than the moments of happiness. It lacks coherence and rhetoric talent. Sometimes, he seems to be childish in his writing and sometimes quite philosophic. There are funny incidents which seem more artificial than the natural. ‘Mutra tyag’ is often comes without any chemistry of writing. Towards the end of the book, events lack objective correlatives. The book appeals sympathy to the writer as well as his writing. But it teaches us precise lesson in our life. We shouldn't run away from the problems but must face it by hook or crook. Death is inevitable and we shouldn't fear the death.

Waiting by Ha jin; Suffering of Female

Waiting is ha Jin’s most acclaimed novel set in china with rural as well as urban setting. It depicts the picture of women and their misery after Mao’s Cultural Revolution in China.
Lin Kong is a doctor in the army hospital at Musi Town. He is originally from Goose village. He has a wife named Shuyu and Daughter Hua in the village. Since his marriage was arranged by his parents, he is not satisfied with his wife. So, there is cold relation between them. However, Dr. Kong provides necessary expenses to his wife. Lin comes home only during the holidays and persuades his wife for getting divorced. Then husband  and wife go to the court of  Wuji Town to get divorced legally. When the lawyer asks Shuyu, some questions, she can’t speak a word except streaming tears on her cheeks. At the mean time Bensang, her brother gets up and  reports that she never desired the divorce. Further he adds, instead Lin is trying to deceive her. Since Shuyu is an illiterate girl and innocent, she afraid of speaking at the court. She doesn’t agree to get divorced. Then the court cancels the case.
Manna, the girlfriend of Lin Kong, has been waiting him for several years desperately to get married. Each time he goes to village to convince his wife to give him a divorce. But he returns bearing the face of the losers.
Before Mana loves Lin Kong, she has an affair with Mai Dong. Mai Dong is frank and good looking person. He proposes her to marry him before he is transferred to another place away from Musi town. Manna also promises to wait. However, she later receives the letter from Mai Dong. Instead of bringing ray of hope, it brings a blow in her heart. Then she cries for nothing. Later she visits Lin Kong and eventually forgets Mai Dong.
Geng Yang is a member of rebel army unit. He is a devil. One day he gets admitted in the army hospital for the treatment. At that time he knows that Manna is still a virgin. He also states that heart is a bit of flesh. Before being discharged from the hospital, he lures Manna to come to his room. Then he rapes her and threats her to death. Manna is broken. She neither complains to the reliable sources nor can remain silent. Her life becomes traumatic. Finally she tells the incident to Lin who doubts on her at first and then supports.
Lin makes a plan to bring his first wife to town from goose village; so that it can be easier to convince for divorce. By this he also can avoid Bensang from his path. As per his plan Shuyu comes to Muji town. She also obeys the commands of her husband and does whatever he asks her to do. Finally they get divorced with the consent of Shuyu. Lin gives his property as per her wish and also promises to give a job to her daughter.
After long waiting, Lin and Manna get married. Then, they quench the thirst of lust vehemently day and night.
As soon as Manna gets impregnated, she feels that her husband is no more interested to her love as he was before. She even suspects on his evening class to the chemistry class where most of the students are girls.
One day Manna is hospitalized for delivery of a child. Labor pain lasts for long time. During this period she scolds her husband. After her long endurance of pain, she gives the birth of two little babies; twins. Bothe of them is boys and named River and Lake. Then new life of responsibility begins. Lin seems irritated with this new phase of life. Sometimes he wants to escape from this burden of life.
One day he goes to his first wife Shuyu’s house to celebrate the holiday. Being completely drunk he promises her to reunite the family. He is scared of Manna’s weak health and his two sons need a help.
The novel has not the clear-cut ending as such reunion of Shuyu and Lin or, death of Manna. Neither it shows the warm relationship between Manna and Lin. It leaves open space to the readers to end the novel as per their wish. Despite, it shows the suffering, humiliation, and domination of female by the male characters. Justice is not given to the women characters.

Ashaqui and The Artist

Ashiqui  2 is an Indian romantic film directed by Mohit Suri and acted by Aditya Roy Kapoor and shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. And The Artist is French romantic comedy drama written and directed by Michel Hazaravicins and acted by Jean Dujardin and Berenie. Both of them have the same plot dealing with the predicament of the artist and romantic love affair and its effect on their personal lives. Here, I am trying to make a comparative study.
In 1927, silent film star George Valentin is posing for pictures outside the premiere of his latest hit film when a young woman, Peppy Miller, accidentally bumps into him. Valentin reacts with humor to the accident and shows off with Peppy for the cameras. The next day, Peppy finds herself on the front page of  with the headline "Who's That Girl?" Later, Peppy auditions as a dancer and is spotted by Valentin, who insists that she have a part in Kinograph Studios' next production, despite objections from the studio boss, Al Zimmer. While performing a scene together, Valentin and Peppy show great chemistry, despite her being merely an extra. With a little guidance from Valentin (he draws a on her, which will eventually be her trademark, after finding her in his dressing room), Peppy slowly rises through the industry, earning more prominent starring roles.
Two years later, Zimmer announces the end of production of silent films at Kinograph Studios, but Valentin is dismissive, insisting that sound is just a fad. In a dream, Valentin begins hearing sounds from his environment (as does the audience), but cannot speak himself, then wakes up in a sweat. He decides to produce and direct his own silent film, financing it himself. The film opens within a few days of Peppy's new sound film as well as the. Now Valentin's only chance of avoiding bankruptcy is for his film to be a hit. Unfortunately audiences flock to Peppy's film instead and Valentin is ruined. His wife, Doris, kicks him out, and he moves into an apartment with his valet/chauffeur, Clifton, and his dog. Peppy goes on to become a major Hollywood star.
Later, the bankrupt Valentin is forced to auction off all of his personal effects, and fires Clifton, telling him to get another job. Depressed and drunk, Valentin angrily sets a match to his private collection of his earlier films. As the quickly blazes out of control he is overwhelmed by the smoke and passes out inside the burning house, still clutching a single film canister. However, Valentin's dog attracts the help of a nearby policeman, and after being rescued Valentin is hospitalized for injuries suffered in the fire. Peppy visits the hospital and discovers that the film he rescued is the one she was first in. She asks for him to be moved to her house to recuperate. Valentin awakens in a bed at her house, to find that Clifton is now working for Peppy. Valentin seems to remain dismissive of Peppy having taken him in, prompting Clifton to sternly remind Valentin of his changing luck.
Peppy insists to Zimmer that Valentin co-star in her next film, threatening to quit Kinograph if Zimmer does not agree to her terms. After Valentin learns to his dismay that it had been Peppy who had purchased all his auctioned effects, he returns in despair to his burnt-out apartment. Peppy arrives, panicked, and finds that Valentin is about to attempt suicide. The two reconcile, and remembering Valentin's superb dancing ability, Peppy persuades Zimmer to let them make a together.
Now the audience hears sound for the second time, as the film starts rolling for a dance scene with Peppy and Valentin and their tap-dancing can be heard. Once the choreography is complete, the two dancers are heard panting. The director of the musical calls out audibly, "Cut!" to which Zimmer adds: "Perfect. Beautiful. Could you give me one more?" Valentin, in his only audible line, replies "With pleasure!" revealing his. The camera then pulls back to the sounds of the film crew as they prepare to shoot another take.
Recently released Bollywood movie Ashiqui share more or less same plot with Indian romantic love flavor.   Rahul Jaykar is an successful but lonely musician whose career has started to wane due to his alchohol addiction ,which subsequently affect his voice . His friend Vivek & boss (Played by mahesh thakur) urges him to leave the habit & focus on his career but he is not able to do so. During a concert he comes in contact with Arohi ,who idolize him ,while he is smitten by her simplicity & voice .He promises her to mentor her career but is unable to do so due to a medical emergency. When Rahul recupartes he finds arohi again & apologise & began to train her, despite vivek reservation .He also approaches different music firms to give her chance & at last his old boss agrees for it. Arohi is an instant hit & people began to compare Rahul & Arohi which angers him & he again go into alcohol spree . However Arohi ,who love's Rahul more than her career soothes him & they spend the night together .Despite Arohi's mother reservations ,Arohi moves in with Rahul .Things go smoothly but Rahul addiction increases with his career downfall so much that he began to have violent episodes with fellow workers . Some of this also embaress Arohi ,but still her love makes her try to reform Rahul again . It would seem that Rahul has finally return to right track but during an award ceremony ,due to some reporter instigation ,he again has a violent alteracation & is put in lockup ,after slapping Arohi. Arohi ,despite his boss advice that Rahul cannot be brought back ,pleads with the police officer to leave him & the officer relent .During that night ,Arohi says to his boss that if required she will also absorb Rahul's habit so that he find solace with her . This finally make Rahul understand that he has become the only center of Arohi life & his love & presence will not allow her to move on unless he goes away . The next day he makes some excuse to arohi, bid her farewell & jumps from a bridge. Arohi is distraught by this & decides to move away somewhere else but vivek encourages her to not waste Rahul Sacrifice by burning her career & going the same route that Rahul took. The end segment shows Arohi to be a succesful singer & she sees Rahul in the audience whenever she performs .The film end with Arohi signing her name as Arohi Rahul Jayekar in a fan's hand as a tribute to Rahul as well as her unfinished desire to become Rahul's wife.
Both of these movies show how artists fade away in course of time if they cant catch the current of new trends. Both of the artists are drunk and a big snob which becomes the cause of their downfall. But the heroines, in the both plays are picked up by the artist and made them star. Finally, they become the super star. The Artist has a happy ending ; whereas  Ishaqui 2 has a tragic end.
