A Black Man at the Busy Intersection
One day I was walking to my home from Lucky 97, Edmonton Down town. I used to live in 113 ST, 107 Ave. When I was walking along the walkway towards the West in 112 St, I saw a black man standing under the traffic light pole at the intersection of 113 St. I had a grocery bag in my hand. While walking I saw him chasing a white man with his hand extended in the posture of punch. Then he abruptly turned around and run towards the road that one of the driving vehicle nearly hit him. I stopped at the intersection to cross the road. I saw him swinging his hands and yelling. There was a bike at the sidewalk upside down. When I saw him comming towards me, I walked further down crossing 113 ST. I did not want to be hit by him. It was no meaning to fight with him because he was completely mad. I heard him saying,"this fucking country is liar, fucking lire. These people have the same white skin. I don't give a shit.'" He was acting as a mad bull on the street of India. When I crossed 107 Ave and arived in front of my home, I saw him kicking a white man. The white man was defending, but not kicking him back. At the same time another white from my building ran across the road and stood in between them. Then he raised his fist up to the nose maintained the posture of martial art. His wife ran towards the scene crying, however she was stopped by a police officer.
On the other side of the road, at the parking lot of shell gas station I saw an ambulance standing. Soon there came another police officer. Both the police offices asked the white normal people leave the scene. But the black guy was still yelling. I was expecing the police officers would arrest him immideately, but they did not. I thought they might be waiting for back up. The black guy was skinny and small. If they wanted to arrest, they could make it there. There was no reason to wait for any further evidences. He was chasing people who were using side walk, running on the middle of the road throwing the drivers at high risk of collision. A Mexican who used to live at the basement apartment told me that the black guy was there for long creating scene, throwing fist to the people walking on the road. But the police could not arrest him. He road on the bike in front of them, yelled at them 'fucking liers, racist' and paddled towards the eastbound. It was a terrific scene to most of the Canadians who grew up in the peace envirnment.
I would like to add one more incident in this chapter. The day before this incident happened, I was working at group home #66 located 97 st, 107 ave. I was on the 2nd floor and as my shift was going to be over in a few minutes, I was looking out of the window which was facing 97 street east. I saw a black truck pulled over by the police. There were three people in the two-seater truck, two women and one man. The police officer got the information of the truck and came back to his car to write a ticket, I saw a man from the truck running along the sidewalk. Then the police officer followed him and they fight on the middle of the road. I saw the man punching the police officer and the police officer trying to arrest him. The scene was bizzere. In a minute or two four police car arrived. They arrested two women from the pulled over truck. Some of them went to assist the police who was still chasing the guy. He used the paper spray to arrest the guy, but he could not catch him. The man fled in front of the dozens f the police officers. He might be arrested later on, however I did not see him being handcuffed and pushed in to the police car.
These two separate incidents in the same area, downtown, shows that how criminal activities are increasing these days in Edmonton. We can see people walking on the streets at night carring large backpacks. 99 percentage of these people do drugs and sell drugs. They are the street people who work for the giant drug dealer who is runnung his business underground. If we go to the large abandoned buildings, we can see hundreds of the homeless people swarming around doing drugs. They have knives and other weapons which can be potential harm to anyone. But police can not do anything if they dont have the evidences. They can not search their backpacks unless they put them under arrest. I have seen the drug dealers doing drugs right after the police left the scene. Night time is the busy time for those people. Sometimes I drive through the 118th avenue where dozens of drug dealers found loitering around. Some of them are the pimps waiting to be picked up by kind and generous guy and offer a blowjob in his truck. This is how they make living and save some money for casino.
Casino is the worst place for the peole who have drug business and other criminal background. Most of the time these peple appear at the midnight and go straight to the isolated area. They pretend as if they are playing the game. In fact, they have the drug exchange. The drug users can be seen everywhere; on the street, at the superstore, at the park, at the train staton. There is not a single place hich is away from such people. Apartment buildings, single homes, public buildings are not away from these people. I will give an example form my own apartment building. At that thime I was the residence manager of the building. I used to manage two buildings in downtown for Braden Equities Inc. One morning when I went down to the basement for boiler checks, I heard snoring from the stairwell. First, I thought it would be from one of the basement suits. As I come across the laundry room, I saw a man sleeping. He was the one who was snoring so loudly. There were smokes and other packages of unknown substances which for sure were drugs. A twenty dollar bill and credit cards were on the washing machine. I gave him a shout three times, but he did not response at all. Then I called #911 and informed that there was a man sleeping in the laundry room. He looked like under the infulence drugs. I wanted to call police for tresspassing and drug use and abuse. But in two minutes two paramedics showed up. They woke him up and helped him in collecting drugs. Then they took him to the paramedics truck and offered their service. I was disappointed.
In the afternoon while I was on the duty got a call from EPS asking me if I needed any help. I told him that I wanted their help at the first call. Since paramedics took him with special care to their truck, I did not need any assistence from the police. I wanted them at the first hand so that they could arrest under the break and enter and also for illegal druge use. After a few days of the first incidence, I found a man sleeping in the third floor stairell parking a bike on the side. It was first seen by my mom who was strolling in the hallway since there was cold outside. When I approached him on the top of the stairwell, he woke up, looked at me as if I was the one who had trespassed. Them he carried his bike on the soldier and exited from the main door.
These are a few examples I have mentioned as a examples of the pity crimes. There are actually many major crimes happening on the daily basis in the city. If you call the police for non emergency line reporting a theft or threat, the approximate waiting time could be six to twelve hours. You can not expect a help from the police immediately. If you see someone stealing your bike from the parking right now and call the police, think you are just the passing information to them. There is no gurentee that they can response immediately, arrest the thief and give you the justice.
