NELTA Makwanpur organizes +2 Levels Teacher's Training at Hetauda School of Management

+2 Teachers Training on the theme of " English Language Engagement for Teacher Professional Development" was held on April 6,7,2012 at  Hetauda School of Management. It was jointly organized by the US Embassy Regional  English Language Office (RELO), Kathmandu and Nepal English Language Teachers Association (NELTA). The two days program was facilitated by  Meg E.Infiorati and Jocelyn White from US.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr Surya Ghimire, the president of Nelta Makwanpur.
There were thirty two participants ranging from northern part of Makwanpur to Southern part . After a brief opening ceremony, Jocelyn White initiated the workshop on " Deeper Engagement on Learning" displaying some personality types on the screen. She talked about different personality types giving examples of her own and her friend Infiorati. Then, she distributed a paper with various numbers to be shadowed for the chosen number.  As soon as the questions were displayed on the screen with alternative answers, we started  marking the options according to our match. Although it was interesting topic to discover our personalty, it didn't meet the expectations of the participants who were informed that the facilitators were going to focus on the classroom texts of  +2. The participants were informed to bring the text books compulsorily a few days before and they did. Like a dumb children, all filled the boxes with the pen and pencils. When we completed the given task, White collected all the papers and declared her session was over. We smiled as a fool. However, we had a hope to learn something new, and really practical for our classroom from Meg E. Infiorati. She looked like a great scholar of distant world who came here to teach something little for us. She introduced her topic "graphic organize" and started telling something which sounded practical. Although her topic lured us for the time being, her ignorance about the texts of +2 dismayed us.
We didn't lose the hope. Hope is only the fuel of living. After a while, she drew some flow charts on the white board and asked the name of the charts. With our brief answers to her giant questions, we had a break for snakes. As soon as we had some cookies, we climbed up to the sixth floor of the building, the venue of the program. The trainers divided teachers in to groups so that they could have discussion on the given topic. The task was to fill the flow chart on the sequence of events from the story given to each group by them. When we had completed our task, the group leader  reported it to rest of the group. After this activity, we are informed that the program had ended for that day. Furthermore, we had also got our assessed personality type from White. I was ENTJ ( Extraversion, Intutive Perception, Thinking Judgement, Judging ).
The second day program began at eight am. At first, White asked us some questions whether we found differences between husband and wife and with other family members. Then she distributed Bloom's Taxonomy Question Stems and asked us to do some group activity on the stories from +2 books. We actively participated and accomplished the given task on the given time. I felt, I learned. Then, there was a lunch break for an hour. After we had lunch, we did similar type of task on a few stories. Finally, it was a closing ceremony along with the distribution of certificates. I got one. All got one. I felt stuffed with pride though there were some picky holes. We snapped some group photographs. And,finally, we bid a goodbye to each other.
